Ruby - Tumbled Stone
Tumbled Ruby
Chatoyant
Size: 18-20mm
About Ruby:
Ruby forms deep within the Earth when aluminum-rich minerals crystallize under intense heat and pressure, and trace amounts of chromium replace some of the aluminum in the crystal structure, giving ruby its signature red color. Sometimes rubies display chatoyancy (a cat’s-eye effect) or a star-like pattern called asterism when tiny, needle-shaped inclusions of rutile align inside the crystal and reflect light in a focused band or star. These internal features are natural and highly prized, as they reveal the ruby’s growth history rather than flaws. Culturally and historically, ruby has been associated with vitality, courage, protection, and passion, believed to strengthen the heart, encourage confidence, and symbolize life force, power, and enduring love across many civilizations.
