About Bismuth:
Bismuth is a naturally occurring metallic mineral known for its fascinating crystal structure and vibrant rainbow colors though an important fun fact is that most colorful bismuth crystals are man-made. In nature, bismuth occurs as a silvery-gray metal, but when it is melted down and carefully regrown, it forms iconic stepped “hopper crystals” with brilliant iridescent colors created by a thin oxide layer reacting with air as it cools. Because bismuth has a low melting point, it is also commonly melted and poured into fun shapes, making it popular for educational demonstrations, art pieces, and science collections. Beyond crystals, bismuth has real-world uses. Most notably, bismuth subsalicylate is the active ingredient in Pepto-Bismol, used to treat upset stomachs. Loved by collectors, educators, and science enthusiasts, bismuth crystals beautifully bridge geology, chemistry, and creativity, making them one of the most eye-catching and talked-about mineral displays.
