About Sphalerite: The word Sphalerite is derived from the Greek word for "treacherous" as it is often hard to identify in nature due to it's dark color blending into the matrix it forms on, which is why this mineral is often collected at night under UV light. Sphalerite is a Zinc Sulphide and is the chief ore mined for Zinc. These Sphalerite specimens appear gray in daylight and are Fluorescent Bright Yellow almost Orange under UV light.
